 This role supports the academic development of the School of Nursing as it enters its next period of growth. As an agile school, working across one of the largest employment sectors in Health and Social Care, we strive to ensure that our programme portfolio innovates to keep pace with the changing environment and that the learning and assessment experience enables students to graduate with tangible employability skills.  As our programmes evolve, we need to lead and develop high quality, renowned practice education across our programmes, providing quality, continuous improvement, monitoring and evaluation of the provision that falls within this portfolio.

 Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Lead school’s practice learning strategy including innovation and the integration of simulated practice in both the physical and digital space.  
  • Focus on the quality and experiences of student nurses, including apprentices, whilst they are educated and assessed in a wide variety of practice placement settings to drive improvements in student experience, reflected in the NSS and other related surveys.
  • Together with Dean, Director of Staffing and Academic Quality and Policy central staff, to support and advise the school in preparation for external quality scrutiny, including OfSTED and PSRBs.
  • Be the key point of contact with our practice partner organisations across the NHS and private, voluntary and independent care sectors to support them in delivering high quality practical student experiences which meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council professional standards. 
  • Network regionally and nationally to influence and shape practice learning and assessment strategies. 
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver practice focussed modules which prepare students for these experiences
  • Represent the SoHN at University Committees where appropriate
  • Lead on the faculty teaching and management observation process

The AD Practice Learning will be expected to contribute to the work of the school through teaching, research and/or innovation and other activities up to 20% of the time. This may include Pro-Proctor work or similar.

 

Skills, experience & qualifications required - Essential

 

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse 
  • Educated to master’s degree-level (or prepared to study for a relevant qualification) 
  • Applications from candidates with appropriate and relevant work experience or other equivalent qualifications will also be considered

Experience

  • The candidate must be passionate about the value and importance of practice based learning and assessment. It is important that they are creative and have the determination to drive change and be novel whilst upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Experienced and well versed in their field of nursing with experience as a practice supervisor or assessor.
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders including health regulators
  • Experience of working within a service delivery environment working towards KPI’s and SLA’s
  • Experience of teaching.
