JOB PURPOSE:

 

As a Functional Skills Assessor, your role involves assessing and supporting learners in developing their Functional Skills in mathematics, reading and writing. This involves providing detailed feedback on mock assessments, creating personalised action plans and delivering tailored strategies for skill development. The role ensures learners have the resources and guidance needed to succeed, including regular check-ins, one-on-one feedback sessions and tracking progress towards exam readiness.

What you’ll be doing

 

 

As a Functional Skills Assessor, your role involves evaluating learners' proficiency in mathematics, reading, and writing through mock assessments, providing detailed feedback to highlight strengths and areas for improvement. You will craft personalised action plans to support learners’ progression and offer targeted strategies to enhance their skills. Regularly monitoring learners’ progress, you will ensure they have the necessary resources for success and are prepared to advance towards achieving their goals.

 

You will also conduct tailored one-on-one sessions, delivering in-depth feedback on mock exams and guiding learners through the essential skills needed for Functional Skills exams. This includes upholding academic standards and safeguarding protocols in line with BPP policies, reviewing learners' progress and booking both mock and formal exams at the appropriate stages. Additionally, you will address learner queries related to the examination process, ensuring they feel supported throughout their journey.

 

 


What experience you’ll need

 

  • Professional qualification or relevant experience.
  • Experience working within a Functional Skills department.
  • Proven experience in project work and task management.
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate, develop, and inspire individuals.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational, coordination, planning, and prioritisation skills.
  • Experience with platforms such as BKSB, Walled Garden, and Open Assess.
  • Familiarity with certificate distribution and record-keeping.
