Head of Learning and Teaching Enhancement 

Home-based (with proximity to travel to London or Manchester)

 

 

JOB PURPOSE:

 

Drawing on your experience of enhancing learning, teaching and assessment practice and an understanding of the education environments in which the BPP Education Group operates, you will drive and manage strategic learning and teaching initiatives around curriculum innovation, academic development, and enhancing the student/learner experience. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the BPP Education Group and informed by the student & learner voice you will champion a high-quality student/learner experience across our provision that builds careers through education.

 

The Learning and Teaching Enhancement team provides expertise in shaping the continued enhancement and delivery of excellence in learning and teaching practice, drawing on evidence informed practice and student/learner-centred approaches to empower others to enhance their own practice. The Learning and Teaching Enhancement team forms part of Group Education Services; a broader team that plays a key role in responding to and resolving complex student needs, and providing specialist services to support staff, students/learners, and Schools across the BPP Education Group. Alongside the Learning and Teaching Enhancement team, Group Education Services provides expertise and support in: Careers, Generative AI and Digital Learning, Library, Student Welfare and Support, Social Impact, and the Students’ Association.

 

Key internal stakeholders for this role to work with include Deans, Associate Deans, Heads of School, Directors of Programmes, Award Leads, Academic Quality, School Education Leads, Faculty, Heads of Service (Group Education Services) and the Talent and Learning Team. Key external relationships include a wide spectrum of regulators and professional bodies (e.g. Advance HE, OfS, QAA, Ofsted), representative bodies (e.g. GuildHE) and relevant statutory bodies and societies.

 

The successful candidate will also be appointed to the academic rank of Associate Professor.

What you’ll be doing

 

As Head of Learning and Teaching Enhancement, you will provide strategic leadership to advance teaching excellence, curriculum design, and academic development across the BPP Education Group. You will lead the Learning and Teaching Enhancement team to design, promote, and evaluate impactful initiatives that support a high-quality student experience and measurable improvements in learner outcomes. This includes overseeing the delivery of academic and CPD programmes that build staff capability and embed a culture of continuous enhancement in teaching and learning.

 

In this pivotal role, you will drive sector-informed innovation, champion the student voice as partners in education, and promote data-led approaches to improve academic performance. You will advise senior leaders on emerging trends and regulatory changes, contribute to institutional strategy and policy, and represent BPP on key internal and external committees. Through scholarly engagement and professional development, you will raise the profile of learning and teaching both within BPP and in the wider higher education community.

 

 

 

 

What experience you’ll need

 

  • A good relevant honours degree.
  • A recognised higher education teaching qualification (e.g., PG Cert) and/or MA/MEd in a higher education context.
  • Senior or Principal Fellowship of Advance HE (UKPSF D3 or D4).
  • Extensive experience in leadership and management of complex projects and/or teams in Higher Education.
  • Strong strategic leadership and creative problem-solving skills with excellent communication and networking abilities to build trust and credibility with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse education provision, including apprenticeships, professional qualifications, and work-based learning.
  • Proven experience in managing academic and/or educational development functions.
  • Experience in developing and leading teaching, learning, and assessment strategies at the discipline or institutional level.
  • Skilled in using data and performance metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Skilled in conveying complex information clearly to varied audiences via reports, presentations, and data analysis.
  • Alignment with and commitment to BPP’s mission to challenge the educational status quo.
