Job Introduction
Job Purpose
The role of Legal Operations Manager is to support BPP’s Team of inhouse lawyers to deliver their legal matters and projects more effectively and efficiently. This will broadly encompass training, assisting with capacity management, developing project management resources and process improvement projects.
This role is dedicated to identifying and implementing changes that enhance working practices, ensuring the efficient delivery of matters and ongoing improvements to the Legal Team’s service delivery. The remit is broad, focusing on implementing project management to streamline operations, assisting with the designing and delivering of training programs to upskill teams across the business, leading operational changes to drive efficiency, and assisting with work allocation to maximise team capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the allocation of incoming work across the Legal Team and working on improvements to this process to maximise the Team’s capacity and efficiency. This will include ensuring that solicitor apprentices are meeting their prescribed learning outcomes.
- Managing a program of training across the business including monitoring attendance across key teams; obtaining feedback for improvements; and conducting knowledge checks
- Responsibility for ensuring that Legal policies and templates are updated at least annually (and more often where the need arises) and ensuring these are appropriately rolled out to the wider business (which may include creating guidance documents/training).
- Assisting the Legal Team with management of larger projects (such as integration activities for new subsidiaries or implementing new processes following legal/regulatory changes)
- Reviewing the Team’s current processes and identifying ways of improving these (including through the use of tech) with a view to continuously improve the Team’s service delivery
- Managing the Teams relationships with external legal firms (including overseeing legal spend) with a view to maximise cost efficiency.
Skills, experience & qualifications required - Essential
We are looking for experienced operational or project management professional who can demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Experience with implementing technology or process change
- Excellent organisational and project management skills
- The ability to think strategically and adapt to change
- Confident in communicating with others and the ability to garner buy-in from colleagues
- A proactive mindsight with the ability to identify problems and solutions independently
- Excellent working skills of all MS office applications
Skills, experience & qualifications required - Desirable
Although prior experience of working in a legal environment would be beneficial, it is not essential.
