Associate Dean Academic Development

Job Introduction

Job Purpose

 This role supports the academic development of the SoHN as it enters its next period of growth. As an agile school, working across one of the largest employment sectors in Health and Social Care, we strive to ensure that our programme portfolio innovates to keep pace with the changing environment and that the learning and assessment experience enables students to graduate with tangible employability skills.  As our programmes evolve, we need to regularly review our assessment and teaching strategy to ensure continuing academic rigour as well as innovation, including digital technology.

 This post-holder will support the Dean to implement the BPP Academic Development Plan which will be closely aligned to improvements in the Office for Student B3 metrics. The post-holder will work collaboratively with Award Leaders and Faculty Managers to identify training needs and devise appropriate academic training.  The post will require the ability to work closely with other Associate Deans and senior staff in academic and professional services departments.

The AD Academic Development will be expected to contribute to the work of the school through teaching, research and/or innovation and other activities up to 20% of the time. This may include Pro-Proctor work.

 Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Lead school’s assessment and teaching strategy including innovation and the integration of technology tools for enhancement and continuous improvement to assessment design, marking, grade distribution and awards
  • Together with Dean and  Academic Quality and Policy central staff, to support and advise the school in preparation for external quality scrutiny, including OfSTED and PSRBs.
  • Lead on content strategy, liaising with faculty staff to ensure consistent high standards of academic content are delivered within agreed timescales, utilising the current research and evidence base.
  • Lead on academic training for curriculum development and assessment practices with keen regard to our international students
  • Act as a principle point of contact with the central Academic Quality and Learning and Teaching Teams to ensure alignment with University Policy
  • Represent the SoHN at University Committees where appropriate
  • Award Leader/Module Leader/other responsibilities as appropriate
  • SoHN lead on the implementation of the University’s student feedback policy 
  • Lead on the faulty teaching and management observation process

 Skills, experience & qualifications required - Essential

 

Qualifications

  • Educated to master’s degree-level (or prepared to study for a relevant qualification)
  • Applications from candidates with appropriate and relevant work experience or other equivalent qualifications will also be considered

Experience

  • Experience of working with international students
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders including health regulators
  • Experience of working within a service delivery environment working towards KPI’s and SLA’s
  • Experience of teaching.
