Why work for BPP North America?
We know that work is just one part of your life. That is why we offer a thoughtfully designed benefits package that supports your wellbeing, flexibility and personal priorities, alongside your career growth. Whether it is time to recharge, support for your health, or opportunities to develop, we want you to feel supported every step of the way.
What you’ll be doing
In this role you will:
- Act as the go-to HR contact for the portfolio, building trusted relationships with campus leaders, managers and employees, and holding regular check-ins on operational priorities, staffing pressures and emerging people risks.
- Advise and coach managers through performance, conduct and attendance matters, ensuring a fair, consistent and defensible approach.
- Lead workplace investigations end to end, from scoping and interviews through written findings and recommendations, ensuring procedural fairness and thorough documentation.
- Manage disciplinary processes, terminations and separations in line with company policy and employment legislation, with Director approval on terminations and settlement terms.
- Manage accommodation, leave, disability and return-to-work cases end to end, including the duty to inquire and undue hardship analysis, coordinating with managers and benefits carriers.
- Interpret and apply HR policy, the BC Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, WorkSafeBC requirements and related legislation in day-to-day decision-making, including notice requirements for restructuring and layoffs.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for the portfolio, guiding hiring managers on selection, offers, internal equity and pay-transparency requirements.
- Oversee onboarding, internal transfers and offboarding; approve employment agreements and change-of-status documentation prepared by the HR Assistant and draft non-standard agreements.
- Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of portfolio records in the HRIS.
- Use HR data and trends — turnover, time-to-fill, absenteeism and engagement — to surface issues early and recommend policy and process improvements.
- Translate organizational HR initiatives into practical, campus-specific implementation plans.
- Act as the HR representative for health and safety across the portfolio, including participation on the Joint OHS Committee and coordination of WorkSafeBC claims.
- Direct and review the work of the HR Assistant on portfolio administration, recruitment coordination and documentation.
- Deliver training that builds manager capability to handle routine people matters independently.
What we’re looking for
To be successful in this role you will need to have a proven track record in the following areas:
- 5+ years of progressive HR generalist or advisor experience, including independently leading investigations and managing a multi-site caseload.
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field; CPHR designation, or working toward it, preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of the BC Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code and WorkSafeBC requirements, with experience managing accommodation and disability cases.
- Proven ability to coach and constructively challenge managers, and to explain complex issues clearly to a non-HR audience, verbally and in writing.
- Sound judgment and discretion with sensitive matters, strong organizational skills across competing priorities, and a clear sense of when to escalate.
- Experience directing or reviewing the work of junior HR staff.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel regularly between Metro Vancouver campuses. HRIS/reporting experience or a post-secondary background is an asset.
